"The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a
hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life."

Portraits - My Passion?

This, being the first post, is where I'm going to take the opportunity to offer a little background about myself as an artist, and a procrastinator.

I have drawn all of my life. I started in a simple way, tracing. I traced absolutely everything my older sister drew. If I remember correctly, it used to upset her.. The tracing eventually evolved into me being able to draw accurate representations of various Disney characters by the time I started second grade. (Beast, Chip, and Scar come to mind.)

I took my first commission in fourth grade. I used to draw skulls and skeletons, I would charge 10 cents a sheet for the other students in my class to trace these pictures. This lasted about a month.

I have, over the years, drawn less and less. I have also improved drastically with nearly every successive picture. To combat this, I have reserved a month's worth of gallery space in October of this year. That means that at the time I'm writing this, I have about seven months to draw enough portraits to fill those walls. I will be the only artist featured that month, so this is a sink or swim kind of scenario.

It has been said that writing about a goal will instill it's importance in your mind and give it substance. That is ultimately the purpose of this blog, to hold myself accountable, and also, to post pictures of my portraits as the are drawn.

I will start by summarizing the portraits I have drawn to date, as well as post pictures of them.
